  36. I download the new SBOS (2.0B9) the other day, with the hopes that XWing would
  37. finally sound awesome.  After some fiddling, it did.  I had to run sbos like:
  38.      sbos -o13 -x123
  39. Don't ask me why.  It works.  The sound is rich and full.  The intro was truely
  40. incredible.
  41.  
  42. BTW, don't use the -p option.  It dulls the sound.
  43.  
  44. PS. This is the first problem I have ever had with SBOS or the GUS.  I have 
  45. been thoroughly impressed so far.

  65. I called Gravis this afternoon to see what was new (I usually call
  66. around once every 6 weeks or so), and learned that the annual report
  67. (year ending Jan.31/93) has been mailed out (I still haven't got it!),
  68. and that first quarter earnings should be released next week.
  69.  
  70. I got the impression that earnings might be disappointing, as Investor
  71. Relations seemed to go out of its way to explain that the late
  72. shipping of the 2.06 disks should be kept in mind as one reads the 1Q
  73. financial statements. The only other "news" was that the private
  74. placement by Loewen Ondaatje McCutcheon sold out very quickly.
  75.  
  76. After pondering the situation for half an hour, I decided to dump my
  77. entire position in Gravis. The stock is near its 52-week high, and is
  78. up over 80% from what I've bought it at. I still like the company (I
  79. have one of the first Gravis Ultrasounds, with a serial number under
  80. 300), and its future prospects, but am worried that next weeks results
  81. might spook investors. The technical picture is good (last week had
  82. huge volume, and a good gain), but I feel that the old adage "buy on rumour,
  83. sell on news" might come true even if decent results are released. So,
  84. the upside looks limited, whereas the downside is quite large
  85. (technical support in the $2.40 range, I'd say). I'll still keep an
  86. eye on the stock, and might repurchase it if the news is ok, but I've
  87. decided to be cautious going into next week.

  139. The FAQ says Advance Gravis is GRVSF on the NASDAQ, but I can't find
  140. it in my local paper (San Antonio Express-News).  Is GRVSF still
  141. the correct symbol?  Is the local paper just too small time to have
  142. Gravis?

  162. GRVSF is on the "pink sheets" i.e. really over the counter. It's
  163. better to buy/sell Gravis on Toronto or Vancouver (symbol AED).

  179. This is probably just my stupid setup, bumaybe someone can help me.
  180. I'm running with QEMM (Only way to get enough memory after UltraMID
  181. is loaded), and when I run 7th guest, it either locks up hard in the
  182. game in the first scene, right before any digitized speech, or it'll
  183. exit at the opening Sphinx screen after you hear "Ba" from "Back for
  184. more?" with the message "DMA overflow" or something like that.
  185.  
  186. I already finished the game, so it isn't a BIG problem, but it'd be
  187. nice to hear what it sounds like.  :-)  It works fine with SBOS (any
  188. version) and my Roland (which sounds very good anyway (MT-32)) w/o
  189. any DMA problems under the same setup.  Weird.

  213. I waited for v0.97 of the AIL before sending this letter, but I only got
  214. partial success using the Miles Drivers with Origin's Ultima 7-II: The Serpent
  215. Isle.

  217. The intro plays just fine (Awesome with Midi and Digitized voices), but when
  218. the program goes to the main menu, it exits with the following messages:
  219.  
  220. SETUP: MT32 alone or MT32 + SB digi
  221. MESSAGE: Unable to initialize sound driver.
  222.  
  223. SETUP: SB midi + SB digi
  224. MESSAGE: Speech card initialisation failed.
  225.  
  226. Seems that Origin tries to initialize the card directly without using the
  227. drivers, but I'm not sure. Has anybody found a way to play U7-2???

  327. were only two vendors that specificaly mentinioned the GUS.

  329. It seems odd that so many vendors would list PAS16, Turtle Beach and

  339.   I recently purchased 8 256K x 4 80ns DRAM chips from Maxx Memory
  340. Products so I could upgrade my GUS to 1MB.  After carefully installing
  341. the chips (using wrist scrap, etc.) and running the DRAM.EXE program
  342. included with the new disk set, all the new chips failed the test!
  343. These chips are made by Sanyo not TI, but are supposedly compatible.
  344. Could this be my problem?  I have a 486DX2/66MHz, do I need faster
  345. chips for a fast computer?  Any help would be appreciated.

  360. under Os/2, but no one mentioned when REAL OS/2 driver come out (no VxD
  361. for WinOs/2, unless is extra).

  366. I also want to know if YOU send new files only to the list of bbs-en you

  376. I find the GUS a GREAT device, so don't take the message to heard, but i 
  377. only want to know WHEN the mentioned features are out (i can wait a bit, 
  378. but not for years ofcourse <grin>)

  383. In the Beta release of Nt (v1.404 March BETA ADVANCED SERVER VERSION)
  384. the Gus drivers aren't included (he didn't install gus software 
  385. automaticly)

  387. SBOS works in a Box in OS/2 2.1 (dos). In Nt i haven't tried. (if anyone 
  388. gets messages like:'Nmi interupt disable'. which was explained by someone 
  389. earlier, then you should try to start up the box (or os/2) again and load 
  390. sbos again. I got the message after a i load sbos a second time in the 
  391. same dos-box, so i assume that he can't get irq 0 twice on os/2)
  392.  
  393. Oh yah, someone say earlier that you had to get VxD drivers for winos/2 
  394. 3.1 and i know in theory that's right, but i could install for my DIamond 
  395. Speedstar 24X the NORMAL windows 3.1 drivers in WINOS/2 3.1 and they 
  396. weren't VxD. (oke i got some problems, but that was due to resolution 
  397. differences on os/2 WPS/PM and Winos/2 3.1. Winos/2 800x600 and OS/2 
  398. 640x480). 
  399. Further some windows drivers in OS/2 2.0 winos/2 3.0 weren't VxD because 
  400. you could install normaal SB drivers (i had the stupid SB PRO then) in 
  401. winos/2 3.0 without problems. I haven't checked if that the case in OS/2 
  402. 2.1 Winos/2 3.1 ...........

  421. I'm having problems when I run any version of SBOS. My mouse stops working.
  422. Any ideas?  It's a BUS logitech mouse.

  424. Is it a bad or good idea to use QEMM 7.0's loadhi to load ultramid.exe high?
  425. I've found it appears to work with all 50+k loaded high with QEMM.  I've
  426. tried battlechess 4000 and it seems to work just fine.  Although I'm sure
  427. there are reasons not to do this.  Any comments welcome.

  477. The patches from the v1.21 disks are not complete.  As I recall, my 1.21
  478. disks had only 80 of the 192 GM patches.  Pupdate will revise the patch 
  479. headers to reflect the latest patch revisions, but will not create 
  480. patches that are not already there.  Starting ultramid with the -c option
  481. will cause it to load a subset of the GM patch, and so it will barf when
  482. it can't find the ones it's looking for.  The reason ultramid works
  483. without the -c option is probably because the game hasn't requested any
  484. of the missing patches.
